Had my car checked last week and was told the rear brakes are well within limits, nothing to worry about. But honestly the car doesn't feel like it's stopping as confidently as it used to, especially when loaded up with passengers. Could the rears be working but just not well? I went through https://brakepadreplacementdubai.ae to understand how rear brakes contribute to overall stopping and it mentioned they do less work than the fronts but still matter, which makes me wonder if something subtle is being missed. Has anyone been told their brakes were fine but still felt something was off? What did it turn out to be? Maybe I'm being paranoid but I'd rather ask than ignore a feeling

Took my Range Rover out to the dunes last weekend and it didn't feel as composed as it used to. It was wallowing more over the bumps and I could feel the weight shifting in a way that made me back off. Nothing's broken that I can tell, but I'm wondering if the suspension is tired. I read about professional Land Rover suspension repair benefits and it mentioned how proper diagnosis and specialist work restores both comfort and capability, which is what I want. Has anyone had their Land Rover suspension refreshed? Did it noticeably improve the off road feeling? And how do you know when it's genuinely worn versus just the terrain making it feel different?

Last week a garage told me my Nissan Patrol needs a gearbox repair, and then he showed me a number that made me sit down. It was a single price on a piece of paper, with no list of what was inside it. The car has about a hundred and thirty thousand kilometers. I live in Sharjah, and it sits in the sun all day and does a lot of slow traffic, so I guess the gearbox works hard. When I got home I read a Genuine breakdown of automatic transmission repair costs, and what I took from it is that the price depends on many things: the fluid and filter, the diagnosis time, small parts like seals and sensors, bigger parts like the valve body or clutches, and the hours of labor, which are high because the gearbox must come out of the car. That helped, but I still have questions for people who paid a bill like this. Is it normal for a garage to give one total and no list, or should I ask for every part and every hour written down? What is the difference in price between a small fix, a rebuild and a full replacement? Is a used gearbox cheaper, and is it risky? Does a rebuild come with a written warranty, and for how long? Should I get a second quote before I say yes, and is it fair to pay for a second check? How much of the bill is just for finding the problem? If you paid for a gearbox repair, please tell me what the problem was, what you paid, and what you would do differently. Easy answers help me most.

Honestly my main motivation isn't stone chips or resale, it's that washing my car here is a nightmare. I read an Expert comparison of PPF and ceramic coating to try and settle it and it did clarify that they work differently, but I'd like real opinions from people who actually wash their own cars.
This is going to sound stupid but here goes. My coolant warning came on and I had no bottle of water or anything in the car, so I decided to just drive the 5km home slowly rather than stop on the side of the road at night. The temp gauge stayed normal the whole way, maybe a hair above usual, but now I'm terrified I've done hidden damage. I read a Helpful answer on driving a car without coolant and it basically confirmed that even short distances with low coolant can cause problems you don't feel immediately. Now I'm scared to even start the car. Has anyone driven a short distance like this and been fine? What signs should I watch for when I start it again? And should I just top it up and see or get it checked first

And how do you even prove parts weren't changed after the fact

Bit of a preventive maintenance question here. My last car left me stranded because the alternator died with zero warning, and I really don't want to go through that again. Now I've got a newer car and I'm paranoid about it. Someone mentioned that you can catch problems early by checking voltage regularly, which I'd never even thought about. I came across some Alternator maintenance advice from Al Zaabi Auto Care that suggested a few simple checks, and it made me realize I've been ignoring this whole system for years. So my question is, how often do you guys actually check yours? Is it a monthly thing or just when something feels off? And is there anything I can do to extend the life of the alternator beyond just hoping for the best?

We're redoing our bathroom and moving the sink to the opposite wall, which I thought would be simple until the plumber started asking questions I couldn't answer. I've realized I don't actually know the first thing about how plumbing gets planned, and I'd rather understand the basics before agreeing to anything. Things like how far a drain can run, whether venting matters if we shift things, and whether it's better to reroute now while the walls are open or live with an awkward layout. Someone told me to find out more here when I asked around, although I haven't looked at it yet.
I've been cross-shopping a couple of 2017 Pajeros listed by private sellers over the weekend, one over in Silicon Oasis and the other near Dubai Marina, but I'm having a hard time deciding which one is actually worth putting down a deposit on. The Marina one is priced lower, although I noticed some fine sand accumulation under the carpet in the trunk and a tiny bit of surface rust around the door hinges, while the Silicon Oasis owner claims his car has only been driven to the office and back. A work colleague sent me a link to pre purchase car inspection earlier today while we were chatting about pre-owned deals, and reading through their notes gave me some solid professional insight into used car inspection warning signs in Dubai that I definitely wouldn't have spotted on my own during a quick walkaround. It made me realize how easy it is to disguise minor frame alignment issues or worn suspension bushings with a shiny polish job, so now I'm leaning towards booking a comprehensive pre-purchase check before making any firm offer on either of them.

My Ghibli's battery gave up this morning and the dealer quoted me an amount that honestly made me laugh, plus they want the car for most of the day which I can't do. I'm trying to work out whether a mobile service is a realistic option for a car like this or if I'd be taking a silly risk. I've heard the battery needs registering to the car or the charging system gets confused, and I don't want to end up with a cheap replacement that dies in six months. I wanted to find out more before making a decision, because I'd rather understand what's actually involved than just hand the keys to whoever's cheapest. Has anyone here used a mobile service for a Maserati battery, and did they handle the registration properly? Or did you just bite the bullet and go to the dealer for peace of mind? I'm genuinely torn and would appreciate hearing from people who've been through this.

I'm taking my Wrangler on a long drive through the mountains next month and I want to give the engine a proper once over before I'm somewhere with no phone signal and no recovery truck. It's done about 150k and has been solid, but I keep hearing horror stories about coolant loss and ticking noises on the 3.6 and I'd rather find issues in my driveway than halfway up a mountain. A mate sent me This Pentastar 3.6L engine repair guide from Jeep Service Musaffah and said it was worth a read before a trip, but I'm curious whether it's actually useful or just the usual vague advice. Has anyone here used it to prepare for a long drive? Did it help you spot something you would have missed, or did you end up going to a garage anyway? I'd rather hear from real owners than just take a chance on it.

I made the mistake of letting one of those cheap roadside wash guys near my building have a go at my car with what I'm pretty sure was a dirty rag, and now the whole bonnet is covered in fine swirl marks that catch the light horribly. I tried polishing it myself with a kit from the accessories shop and honestly I think I made it slightly worse. I'm in ICAD and I'd rather take it to someone who actually knows how to use a machine polisher instead of experimenting on my own paint. A guy at work mentioned Best paint polishing and detailing workshop in ICAD but he couldn't remember the name or whether they were any good. Has anyone here had paint correction done locally? I want to know if it genuinely removes swirl marks or if it's just a temporary gloss that fades after a few washes.
